_Overview
Aging is a major risk factor for many human diseases. It is a complex process that progressively compromises most of the biological functions of the organisms, resulting in an increased susceptibility to disease and death.
In the last decade, there was an increase in research about the role of cellular metabolism in controlling longevity. Several metabolic changes accumulate with age, indicating the presence of a “metabolic clock”. They could be the basis to develop new strategies to treat age-related diseases like metabolic, neurodegenerative, cardiovascular, and degenerative joint diseases…
In this symposium, we will focus on the last discovered about several hallmarks of aging: genomic instability, telomerase attrition, epigenetic alterations, loss of proteostasis, disabled macroautophagy, deregulated nutrient-sensing, mitochondrial dysfunction, cellular senescence, stem cell exhaustion, altered intercellular communication, chronic inflammation, and dysbiosis.
It will help to know how aging impact on health and the newly emerging findings on the cellular aging hold great promise for improving the quality of life.
